Take the time to consider...what if?
Have you ever found yourself quietly wondering…’What if?’
Not the what if that fills you with fear, but the one that gently tugs at your heart.
What if I finally started that little business idea that’s been sitting in my notebook for years?
What if I travelled?
What if I learnt something new?
What if I stopped worrying about what everyone else thought?
What if I finally chose me?
I think every woman has a ‘what if’ tucked away somewhere. The trouble is, life has a habit of getting in the way.
We tell ourselves we’ll think about it after the children are older, after work settles down, after we’ve paid off the mortgage, after we’ve looked after everyone else. Then one day we realise months have passed, then years, and that little dream is still sitting quietly in the background waiting for its turn.
The truth is, delaying something isn’t always the safe option. Sometimes delaying simply means we’re waiting to feel ready.
The problem?
Most of us never do.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. Moving to the country has given me time to slow down, notice life a little more and ask myself different questions. Walking through my very small town, rearranging my garden and getting it ready for Spring, watching the fog roll across the hills or spotting a rainbow after the rain has reminded me that some of life’s greatest lessons come from the simplest moments.
It’s those moments that inspired my own question…
What if…?
Not because I have all the answers, but because asking a different question often leads us in a different direction.
Instead of asking:
What if we started asking:
I’ve learnt over the years that confidence rarely arrives before we start. We often think confidence comes first, followed by action. In reality, it’s usually the other way around. We take one small step, discover we survived it, and suddenly confidence quietly joins us for the next one.
Looking back over my own life, I realise many of my biggest opportunities began with uncertainty. They weren’t perfectly planned, and I certainly didn’t have everything figured out. They simply began because I decided to take the next step, even while I still had questions.
That’s why I don’t believe your life has to change overnight.
In fact, I don’t think it should.
Perhaps your next chapter starts with something much smaller.
Maybe this weekend you could:
None of these things will completely transform your life by Monday morning.
But every one of them is a quiet way of saying, “I’m ready to stop waiting.”
I’ve discovered something else recently too. We often believe we need to see the whole path before we begin walking it. Nature doesn’t work like that. A seed doesn’t wait until it can see the flower before it starts growing. It simply grows. The rest unfolds in its own time.
Maybe we’re not so different.
Maybe we don’t need to know exactly how everything will turn out.
Maybe we only need enough courage to take the next small step.
So, as you head into the weekend, I’d love to leave you with just one question.
What if…?
Not the version filled with doubt.
The version filled with possibility
Because your next chapter probably won’t begin when everything feels perfect.
It will begin the moment you stop waiting for permission and start becoming curious about what could happen if you simply said…
“Why not?”
Until next time,
Sarah xo
