Got a business idea?
After having been an employee all my adult life, moving into the self employed space was something I was so not prepared for. I finished my qualification, and thought oh my…what do I do now? I was going into the unknown with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. Those next couple of months was a whole new learning curve. You start to ask yourself, do you want to subcontract out to other businesses to rely on an income, or go it alone from the get go? I chose the latter, as that was the reason for becoming self employed right? But then the questions started emerging.
These are all perfectly normal feelings we have when we start on a journey that we’ve never experienced before. On the one hand, we’re excited to be our own boss. Controlling the diary, being able to say I’m not going to work tomorrow, or the kids have a basketball game every Thursday afternoon so I can close off the diary so I can attend.
The other side of that is not wanting to let clients down so you work extra long hours at the expense of your family and your health. You enjoy earning your own money, so you don’t think of the other aspects of running a business that are a requirement of being your own boss. All the things I had completely not thought about in the first two years of being self employed. All the hidden costs, that was a reality check for sure.
Now being nine years later and having all the right steps in place, I look back at what I’ve grown. And it was about three years ago, friends and acquaintances were coming to me to ask for help. How do I start my business? How do I do this with clients? How do I do that with clients? How do I manage a difficult client? What appointment software do I use? How do I…
The questions were endless, and it was when a friend said to me, you’re doing a community service for your peers and colleagues, why not do it professionally? That was the seed that was planted, so in the last three years I’ve been doing just that, creating, building, nurturing business owners to help get their businesses off the ground, pivot their businesses, find their niche! What’s yours going to be?
